You wake up extremely early for work, turn on the TV to your favourite morning show (CP24), and squint with your tired eyes at the weather for the day.
It’s the middle of October so you can never predict what mother nature will bring for us. Today she delivered rain with a high of 15 degrees, and as that information finally registers in my mind I ask myself “What does that even mean?”. I sit there to see what Bill Coulter is wearing as he delivers the weather from outside on Queen Street West, and I get nothing. Watching the time pass and get closer to when I have to leave for work, I take matters into my own hands.
If you are anything like me, rain isn’t really my best friend. It’s wet, makes me uncomfortable, and don’t even get me started on what it does to my hair. So, I always make sure that what I wear on the days that it rains is something that I am comfortable in and therefore making the rain a little bit more tolerable. This makes for a more happier and peppier Stephanie.
Let’s keep in mind that comfortable does not have to mean frumpy. Opt out those sweats for a nice pair of faux-leather pants (I found mine at Wilfred/Aritzia) and a simple long-sleeve top. I went for an all black look today but you can certainly switch up colours with a burgundy, cream, dark green, or plum top, keeping with the fall palette. Add an oversized coat that you can wear open or closed and a pair of comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting wet during your commute.
I find that dressing in layers during this time of year is best because you never know if it will be warm or cold, so you can take off or put on layers as you seem fit. Should you have a meeting at work, be sure to bring another pair of shoes such as a nice ankle boot or simple flats to make the outfit more business casual for the workplace. Also, feel free to throw a blazor on top to add to your work meeting look.
Lastly do not forget that life saving umbrella to protect your hair, or if you prefer a chic hat that works also. Today I chose both an umbrella and my Blue Jays hat, because Game 5 is on this afternoon and I have so much love for Toronto and this team.
