Aloha! Earlier this week I was invited to the Launch party for Calii Love and I must say I don’t mind some Hawaii in Toronto! This California and Hawaiian inspired raw food café is situated on King West. Why the name? ‘Calii’ means Strong Woman in Hawaiian, also inspired by the California and LA lifestyle.
They serve authentic staples from Hawaii such as Poké (POH-keh) bowls, super-food smoothies, Acai bowls and of course coffee. Poké is raw Tuna or Salmon marinated in Shoyu.
It’s great to see a multifaceted, globetrotter find a home base in Toronto. @chefjoefriday was born in North Carolina, raised in Okinawa, Japan, trained in French Cuisine, apprenticed in Norway and England and spent a few years in Honolulu working at the famous Nobu (My favorite restaurant in LA!). Now he is the owner and chef at ViaVai (which I have yet to try, I walked in at 2:00pm one day and it was closed 😦 ) and the creator of Underground Chef Co. Talk about quite the resume!
I had the pleasure of speaking to one of the owners @Dangunam and he had explained to me that their fish is delivered daily and cut fresh every morning. They also use all fresh ingredients for the bowls and smoothies.
This fast, healthy, comfort food establishment has been quite the talk in the past month, Amber Rose was seen posting about the Poké bowl on her Instagram page, while they were also getting Celebrity visitors such as Ryan Gosling and Nick Canon!

create your own!
I personally loved the option to create your own bowl, where you pick a base, a protein and a variety of toppings bound to intrigue everyone’s taste buds. I also got the Joyful smoothie which consists of Mango, Pineapples and Strawberries. I still have to come back and try the Acai bowls!
I definitely can’t forget the amazing, talented artist @baristabrian serving me a @Baroccocoffee Latte with my face on it!

Thanks Brian!
#goodvibesonly until next time @caliiloveco!
