What Torontonian doesn’t love to brunch on a sunny afternoon in Liberty village?! Well that’s exactly what I was doing in Liberty village on Saturday, although originally I had wanted to check out Mildred’s kitchen (another Toronto fav, hopefully my next brunch spot), but the wait time was 45 minutes! So we walked down to School which was only 10 minutes away. Just a heads up, these places usually are first come first serve, so anticipate waiting anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour because they don’t accept reservations! We got really lucky at School, they told us there was a 30 minute wait, but the bar opened up and we were seated there within 5 minutes.
The staff was very sociable and attentive, I could tell they were use to people coming in and taking pictures of the dishes (although I did get a few stares when I used my new Lumee Case as lighting). Inside there are two rooms, I assume the other section turns into a patio which must be an amazing spot in the summer! It was interesting sitting at the bar, on my right were the chefs preparing all the meals fresh and on the TV screen in front of me they were playing full house (classic!).
The place was very bustling and lively, filled with students, young professionals, families; a spot you can go to with just about anyone. In case anyone wants to relive their childhood, there was even a hopscotch grid right in front of the washrooms!
We got the Cheat Day! Cheesecake Filled French Toast $18 (right) & Super Fluffy Buttermilk Pancakes $13 (left), both very heavy rich meals. If you have a sweet tooth I would highly recommend going with the French toast, it’s two thick slices of finger-licking goodness with a slab of cheesecake in the middle, strawberries on top and whipped cream on the side. I promise you will need to be rolled home after this meal; it’s truly a cheat day meal! The pancakes were definitely stacked high, fluffy and delish, but a little dry for my liking.
I will hopefully be visiting very soon to indulge in the other delicious options School has to offer! Who would’ve thought going back to school would be this exciting!
