Last night I decided to try Mezes, which is located on Danforth, in Greek town. This part of the city is so pretty at night, the streets are lit with festive lighting and it’s a great street to walk down when it’s not too chilly out. My coworker had recommended this restaurant to me as one of the best Greek places in Toronto. When I walked in, it was completely packed, but to my surprise I only had to wait 10 minutes before I got seated. It’s brightly lit and very lively. What I found appealing is that rather than loud music, instead you hear the pleasant sounds of laughter and chatter booming from every table. The restaurant truly promotes the authentic feel of Greek culture that we’ve all witnessed in many movies.
The service was great from the second we walked in to the minute we left. The hostess was prompt, but friendly. The waiter took our orders right away for food and drinks and served us in under 20 minutes. Lets move on to the mouth watering Calamari I ordered! It was lightly battered, fried and seasoned to perfection, served alongside Tzatziki sauce. Sometimes I find Tzatziki sauce to be too sour for my liking, but Mezes does it just right! This is hands down definitely one of the best calamari dishes I have tried. Well worth the $17.00 price tag.
For my entree I had the famous chicken souvlaki. The chicken was tender and the potatoes complimented the rice well. Everything tasted delicious and fresh. I wanted to try the dips as well (which I have heard are amazing) but I was so full, maybe next time!
I am going back for sure and doing it authentic Greek style! Greek culture promotes ordering a bunch of different items and sharing them, so you can get a taste of everything! Mezes is a great spot to bring your family or friends, you can dress up or dress down depending on the occasion. I definitely have to agree with my coworker and say that this is one of the best Greek places in Toronto! OPA! #foodoftoronto #mezes
